Dr Jacky's Amazing Story 

Patience is a virtue...

Jacky had been working for some years and progressed well up to that point but now she was feeling stuck in her career with no obvious scope to develop further.

Jacky had been exploring and praying about options but there was nothing positive. During this time, a visiting minister, with a prophetic calling came to speak at her church. She was interested in what he might have to say but was guarded as she knew that prophetic words must be tested.



To her surprise, although he knew nothing of her circumstances, he spoke directly to Jacky about a promotion and an opportunity opening up for her in the USA. Jacky was unimpressed as she had no desire to work in the United States, for several important reasons - healthcare is privatised there, typically she would have to do exams to work there and Jacky wasn’t planning on any more studies and where would she get the money from to pay for a relocation!?

It sounded almost ridiculous, but Jacky had learned that it is best not to dismiss something God may have in mind, so she kept praying a simple prayer, that if God was indeed going to provide an opportunity in the USA for her, then He would have to remove all of the barriers to make it possible.

Jacky continued to look in the medical magazine each week for interesting jobs, but there was nothing, until three months later she saw an advertisement for a one-year Fellowship in the USA with an organisation called the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, based in Boston Massachusetts, co-sponsored by the Health Foundation UK.



The package included visa, relocation costs, continued salary so that she could slot back into her workplace, and no exams. This completely fitted her requirements and there was just the small matter of a competitive application and interview process to navigate! The opportunity looked amazing, Jacky would gain access to the highest technical and teaching support and learn practical approaches to improving healthcare services at a strategic level.

Where God gives vision, He also makes the provision...

Jacky applied and God opened the way for her not only to gain experience in quality improvement methods at an internationally renowned centre for excellence but in addition to undertake and complete a Masters in Public Health at Harvard University no less! She spent 18 months travelling all over the US, contributing to workshops and learning labs and even supporting a Healthcare centre in Louisiana, Mississippi post-hurricane Katrina.


The whole experience was something Jacky could never have conceived or imagined, it was so much more than she could even have dreamed - only God could do this! (1 Corinthians 2:9).

God is truly able to do exceedingly more than we could ever ask or think (Ephesians 3:20) - and Dr Jacky is forever grateful!
